Andrew Lincoln is walking away from The Walking Dead.

The rumors have begun to spread like a horde of Zombies across the world wide web, after what will be nine seasons Andrew Lincoln is finally walking away from AMC's The Walking Dead.

As originally reported by the Hollywood Reporter, multiple sources have confirmed that Lincoln who has portrayed former sheriff Rick Grimes since the series began in 2010, is set to film a handful of episodes before departing alongside co-star Lauren Cohan.

While this has come as a shock to many fans, with Grimes still being upright in Robert Kirkmans source material, some have been quick to point out that after season eight which saw the surprising death of Carl Grimes anything is possible.

Lincoln himself has hinted at his pending departure multiple times over the past year. With his family living in London and him regularly commuting to the AMC set in Atlanta, Lincoln told The Hollywood Report in December that "there needs to an end game and that is something that is definitely being discussed" He then started in February that "There's certainly and endgame in my head. Whither or not that's the same endgame that's in the producers' heads or the people I work with, is another matter. That's open for discussion."

Meanwhile co-star Norman Reedus is rumored to be in negations to assume the leading role from Lincoln with an estimated contract worth more then $20 million dollars.

The Walking Dead: Could this be the beginning of the end?

Could this be the beginning of the end?

This past Friday at San Diego Comic-Con saw the much-anticipated release of The Walking Dead season 8 trailer from AMC, and as the final seconds ticked away fans the world over were given reason to take pause before scrambling to the internet.

We are of course referring to the time-jump which presented us with a much older Rick Grimes, shorter hair, long grey beard, waking up in bed next to a nightstand with a cane resting against it, what was happening here?

As fans flocked to the net the speculation began, was Rick waking up from his coma?  Have the events of The Walking Dead been nothing but a dream?  Creator Robert Kirkman has ruled this possibility out several times throughout the years, and as fans we'd like to believe that when the end comes it won't be so obvious.

Many speculated this time-jump would follow the upcoming All Out War story arc, which in the comics saw Rick defeat Negan and his Saviors but not before Negan broke Ricks leg - forcing him to rely upon the use of a cane as a mobility device.

While this would be another obvious assumption, we'd like to suggest one alternative - could season eight be the beginning of the end? 

When "The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life" aired at the beginning of April, the 90 minute season seven finale saw a decline in viewership of 20% compared to its season six finale, this decline also represented the shows third lowest finale results since the series began on October 31st, 2010.

With 15.8 million viewers, season five's "Conquer" holds the record for the season finale which drew in the largest audience.

In an industry which feeds off merchandising and advertising revenue, we can't help but wonder if AMC executives have been taking notes, and if so could they be preparing to pull the plug on one of our favorite Sunday night series?

Sadly we wouldn't be surprised if, sometime in the near future, it was announced that season eight of The Walking Dead was in fact the finale season.  Should this be the case then all we can hope for is that our Walking Dead family gets the send off they deserve after providing us with so many years of entertainment.

The Walking Dead - Rick's Smile ***SPOILERS***

When Rick smiles you can bet something big is going to go down!

With the return of The Walking Dead this evening it became abundantly clear that the season seven finale is going to be nothing short of epic.

Tonight's episode began with Gabriel looting Alexandria's supplies and disappearing into the night while Rick and company were seeking support from The Hilltop in preparation for their showdown with Negan and the saviors.

Not surprisingly Gregory would have nothing to do with supporting Alexandria and suggested they use the back door on their way out so as not to be seen.  Rick would gain a few supporters from The Hilltop but not nearly enough to win in whats sure to be a numbers game.

Jesus would then take Rick and his group to The Kingdom in the hopes of gaining support from King Ezekiel.  Rick would come face to face with Morgan, and once hearing of Glenn and Abraham's deaths Morgan would suggest finding an alternative non-violent course of action to Ezekiel.  Fearing for the lives of his people the good king would deny Rick armed support but Daryl would be granted asylum from Negan within The Kingdoms walls.  

All was not lost however because on their return trip to Alexandria, the group would acquire some much needed firepower in the form of explosives - the saviors shouldn't just leave their stuff lying around! They would then return to Alexandria in time for a visit from the saviors who were sent to eliminate Daryl - Negan seems a little upset over fat Joey's death.

Once they were satisfied that Daryl hadn't returned to Alexandria they would leave and Rick would learn of Gabriel's unusual departure.  Rick would search Gabriel's home and would find evidence pointing him in the direction of the houseboat that he and Aaron had scavenged a short time ago for Negan.  

Once again Rick and group would set out on the road in search of Gabriel and as the final seconds of the mid-season premiere ticked away we would see something rare from the leader of Alexandria, a smile!

In an episode were Alexandria would be rejected time and again it took being surrounded by a mass group with guns to really set things in motion,  I think it's safe to say that Rick has found his army.

Service, Regret and Remorse in Alexandria

"What's wrong with Daryl?"

While watching this weeks episode of The Walking Dead with a family member I was asked that question.  

My response was simple 

"Daryl has been broken by guilt and remorse"

So then they asked:

"What about Rick?"

"Rick?" I said,  "Rick has been turned into a giant puss"

This statement might seem harsh but I honesty believe it's accurate.  Daryl is understandable - he is emotionally broken by the belief that Glenn's death is on his hands.  Further to that is Father Gabriel leading Negan to believe that Maggie is dead, one more thing to drive Daryl's guilt. 

Rick however has lost his will to fight through fear of what could happen - hence he has given up.

How long will it be before Rick's people give up on him?

We are now four weeks into season seven and after the shocking start to the season we were given two weeks of drama, the ability to catch up with various characters, but now it seems we are finally moving forward with the theme of season seven as Negan came to Alexandria to deliver service with a smile!

As the Saviors knocked on the front gate a lone walker sought to attack the group so Negan selflessly and heroically crushed it's skull with no concern for his own Well-being.  The tribute he demanded for his protection was simply half of everything they had.  Furniture, mattresses, guns and medicine, he wanted it!  

Making a tense situation worse was Carl who took a shot at one of Negans people - prompting Negan to spare his life BUT now demanding all of the guns instead.  Believing he had no choice Rick agreed, however when two weapons where confirmed missing it was made clear that Olivia would be the one to pay the price.

Frantically Rick made a plea to his people - turn over the missing guns before Olivia's time ran out. It was at this point we realized Rick's people had already begun to lose faith in him.

That didn't take long!

Eventually the guns were located, along with food and alcohol in Spencer's home - this would later lead to a confrontation between Rick and Spencer.  Negan would take what he came for and as he was preparing to leave Rick asked if Daryl could stay, Negan suggested that if Daryl wanted to stay then maybe Daryl should speak up, try and sway Negan to allow it.

Daryl said nothing.

As they were leaving Negan informed Rick that when he came back they had better have something "Interesting" for him or one of Rick's people would surely die!

Rick would later tell Michonne that he had always known Judith was not his daughter but that he loves her and accepts her as his daughter just the same.  Rick also confirmed that he was afraid of losing more people - he wants to watch Judith grow old.

The common theme seems to be the numbers game, Rick is worried that his people can never stand against the Saviors based on pure numbers.  What he has yet to realize is that at his core Negan is a bully who is being allowed to have his way.

Cut the head off the snake and the snake dies!

Had the residents of Alexandria taken the fight to Negan and his people as soon as they set foot within the towns walls then I'd venture to say things would have gone much differently.

As part of setting the tone for what is to come for the remainder of season seven:

As Negan was leaving he asked Rick if he had anything to say, Rick offered a reluctant thank you referring to the fact that no blood had been spilled, Negan laughed and responded with "I just slid my dick down your throat and you thanked me!"  

How long will it be?  How long will it be before an all out confrontation begins and who will get the ball rolling?  Personally I'm betting on Maggie being the one to rise up and seek her revenge but I'd also love to hear what you think.

The Walking dead - The Breaking of Rick Grimes?

"Eeni meeni miini moe"  how many episodes does Negan have to go?

When season six ended fans where left to question who was the unfortunate recipient of the beating from Negan and Lucille?

Now that season seven has begun we know that it was in fact two of the members of 'Team Rick" that have left the show with the systematic murders of both Abraham and Glenn.

This horrifying event was followed by a powerful statement by Rick who promised that one day he would kill Negan.  In response Negan then drove off with Rick to began the methodical breaking of his spirit which concluded with a simple threat,  either Rick was to cut Carl's arm off with an axe or Negan would kill them all!

This scene concluded with Daryl being taken hostage and an injured Maggie out to seak her revenge.

Tonight's episode was a powerful season premiere with the surprising departure of not one but two cast members.  This has brought us two questions,  how long does Negan have before Rick truly seeks retribution?  OR has Rick truly been broken?
